MATT

Deaf Minister
MATT was born deaf to a hearing family in Wyandotte, Michigan. In the early years, he was admitted to school that taught through oral method. Later on, his parents realized that his education wasn’t progressing well under the oral program and decided to place him into school that would educate through sign language. Matt graduated from high school and has attended Rochester Institute of Technology, home to the National Technical Institute for the Deaf in Rochester, New York and obtained a bachelor degree in Criminal Justice.
Shortly after that, he moved to Washington, DC for graduate studies in Master of Public Policy at George Washington University. Throughout his graduate studies, he has worked with the U.S. Department of Transportation. In 2005, after graduation, he worked in the Office of Development at Gallaudet University for almost 9 years.
During his time in Washington DC, he attended the Fairfax Church of Christ since 2003. He was baptized at Fairfax Church of Christ by Mark Lowenstein in 2003. Fast forward to 2014, Matt realized that he could put his skills, knowledge and desire to working for Jesus Christ. He loves to teach, preach, and connect with people – what better position to do that for the Lord as a minister? He pulled his roots up from living 11 years in Washington, DC and moved to Lubbock, Texas to study the bible at SIBI. He graduated from SIBI in December 2016, and is eager to serve the Lord here in Lubbock!
His ministry experience consist mainly of volunteering to preach or teach at least once a month at Fairfax Church of Christ for approximately 2 – 3 years before leaving for Lubbock. He completed summer internships at the Camelback Church of Christ (2015) and Southern Hills Church of Christ (2016). Throughout his school studies, he has volunteered to help teach bible classes at Sunset Church of Christ.
Matt's favorite scripture is Psalm 118:24 (NIV’84) - This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it. Meanwhile, he loves to play chess, chill at coffeehouses, read books, practice martial arts, play with dogs, and meeting new people! If you’re curious to know which team Matt favors in football, or which coffee he likes, or more importantly to learn more about the Word of God, feel free to contact him
