Congregational Life

Rodney was born on July 9, 1955 in Fort Smith, Arkansas. Most of his childhood was spent in Ft. Worth, Texas but he graduated from Plainview High School and attended Texas Tech University receiving a Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture.

Rodney met Sherry Burns in high school in Plainview and they married in 1976. They have two children, Jenna and Cannon. Jenna and her husband David have three children. Rodney and his family have been active members at Sunset since 1988.

He worked as an architect in private practice and then for the State of Texas for over 20 years. Rodney was offered the Involvement Ministry position in May of 2000 which he has always felt was a great blessing and honor to serve at Sunset in ministry full time. He then went back to college attending Abilene Christian University acquiring his Master’s in Christian Ministry. It was sometime later that the position title changed to Congregational Life Minister.

Rodney’s favorite scripture is Ephesians 4:11-13. His favorite food is Mexican and his favorite sport is basketball. He enjoys reading, fishing, gardening and spending time with family and friends.
